Amman: The Higher Steering Committee for the National Social Protection Strategy has initiated its first round of national consultations with the media sector, aimed at updating the strategy for 2025-2033. This initial meeting was attended by key figures including Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani, Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa, as well as heads of strategy pillars, media directors, editors-in-chief, journalists, and experts.
According to Jordan News Agency, Momani highlighted that the main goal of the meeting was to showcase the updated strategy’s key features and to gather initial feedback from media representatives. He stressed the vital role media plays in enhancing public awareness about the strategy and its components, emphasizing that media’s involvement extends beyond reporting to addressing the needs of vulnerable social groups and promoting their self-reliance through coordinated efforts.
Minister Wafa Bani Mustafa discussed the comprehensive national efforts in revising the strategy to align with the modernization tracks introduced by His Majesty King Abdullah II, specifically focusing on economic modernization. She mentioned the government’s response to the directives from His Majesty’s royal letter to Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, which calls for expanding social protection and prioritizing support for the most vulnerable, integrating economic empowerment initiatives to create opportunities for them. Bani Mustafa confirmed that the government plans to launch the strategy in the second quarter of this year, as stated in its policy statement.
Bani Mustafa also emphasized the importance of the consultative meeting with the media to gather insights on the draft strategy, which is part of the updated communication and outreach plan. She underscored the media’s crucial role in raising awareness and ensuring comprehensive dissemination of information about the national social protection strategy and its benefits to citizens.
During the meeting, key officials presented the strategy’s main pillars. Vice Chairman of the National Center for Security and Crisis Management, Brigadier General Hatim Zoubi, led the Resilience Pillar, Mohammad Tarawneh from the Social Security Corporation headed the Opportunity Pillar, Khetham Shnaikat from the National Aid Fund led the Dignity Pillar, and Ahmad Abu Haidar from the Ministry of Social Development represented the Empowerment Pillar.
The meeting included a short introductory film on the updated strategy, followed by a review of communication and outreach strategies within the sector. The session concluded with an in-depth discussion involving journalists and strategy pillar heads, who tackled various social issues related to the strategy. Participants provided comments and recommendations, which will be evaluated for inclusion in the final version of the strategy.
