Jordan and Denmark Foreign Ministers Strengthen Bilateral Ties and Address Regional Issues

Amman: Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi and Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen convened in Amman to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations and coordination on pressing regional issues. The meeting aimed to fortify cooperation between Jordan and Denmark, focusing on key sectors such as economic, defence, and investment opportunities.

According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions also highlighted the importance of private-sector engagement and the signing of agreements to bolster these efforts. A significant portion of the dialogue was dedicated to addressing the Israeli war on Gaza and the need for immediate humanitarian aid to the affected areas. Additionally, both ministers examined the situation in Syria, agreeing on the necessity of a comprehensive plan to support Syria’s reconstruction, ensuring its security and stability, and promoting the safe return of refugees.

During a joint press conference, Safadi conveyed optimism about future cooperation with Denmark, noting that the discussions were “productive” and indicative of a mutual commitment to advancing bilateral relations. He commended the ongoing partnership with Denmark and reiterated Jordan’s dedication to assisting the Syrian people in their rebuilding efforts.

Safadi also called for an end to the Israeli war on Gaza and the facilitation of humanitarian aid delivery, emphasizing Jordan’s continuous support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in its mission to aid Palestinian refugees.

Rasmussen, in turn, lauded Jordan’s stability and its crucial role as a regional partner. He reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to collaboration, particularly in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and advocating for a two-state solution to achieve lasting peace in the region. Rasmussen also opposed any cessation of UNRWA’s operations, underlining the agency’s essential work in Gaza and beyond.

The meeting concluded with both ministers reiterating their shared objectives of fostering regional stability, promoting peace, and supporting humanitarian initiatives.
