Gaza: Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are facing severe shortages of food and water, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned on Monday.
According to Jordan News Agency, UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated that relief workers continue to risk their lives to provide assistance to those in need. Dujarric noted that the World Central Kitchen organization suspended its operations in Gaza after three of its workers were killed.
Dujarric emphasized that UN partners are warning of damage to local food systems due to military operations, shelling of residential areas, and the presence of unexploded ordnance. He pointed out that the lack of food remains the greatest concern for people across all population groups, including women, men, girls, and boys.
In addition, the World Food Programme (WFP) reported that “virtually no food” has reached the besieged areas in northern Gaza’s Beit Lahia, Beit Hanoun, and Jabalia for 50 days. The only exception was
on Sunday, when the WFP managed to send 200 food parcels with a humanitarian mission led by the World Health Organization to the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia.
The WFP also indicated that commercial shipments to Gaza have reached their lowest levels in months, and fresh food and meat are scarce and extremely expensive. For example, the price of a bag of wheat flour in central Gaza has reached $200, while a dozen eggs costs around $100.
