Amman: Minister of Environment, Muawiyah Radaideh, met with Sheri Ritsema, the UN Resident Coordinator, and a group of representatives from UN programs in Jordan, on Thursday to discuss enhancing cooperation in biodiversity, environmental conservation, and climate change.
According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions focused on improving collaboration in areas such as the circular and green economy, and reviewing significant ongoing and upcoming UN projects in Jordan. Radaideh highlighted the importance of expanding sustainable cooperation, especially given the increased pressure on infrastructure and resources due to climate change and the refugee crisis in Jordan. He also commended the United Nations for its partnership with the Ministry of Environment, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and Jordan’s vision for economic modernization.
Ritsema expressed the UN’s commitment to continuing their partnership and support for the Ministry’s environmental initiatives. She praised the Ministry’s ef
forts in strengthening ties with the UN to enhance sustainability and environmental project implementation in Jordan.
The meeting also underscored the importance of collaborations with various UN agencies, including UNICEF, FAO, UNDP, and others. It emphasized the need to increase women’s and youth’s participation in environmental efforts. Radaideh concluded by reiterating the necessity of fostering environmental cooperation to achieve set goals, with a plan for follow-up actions over the coming months to build on progress and establish clear future objectives.
