French institute suspends partnership with Israeli university over pro-Gaza war positions

The Institute of Political Studies at the University of Strasbourg, in eastern France, has suspended its partnership with Israel’s Reichman University due to its “pro-Gaza war” positions.

According to AFP, the director of the institute, Jean-Philippe Heurtin, approved this proposal with 12 votes in favor, seven against, and two abstentions, as members denounced “the positions of the university concerned, which are pro-war and devoid of any humanitarian, peaceful, and critical perspective towards the ongoing war in Gaza.”

“The active involvement of this university in a conflict that leads to the killing of tens of thousands of civilians, women, and children is contrary to the humanitarian values advocated by the Institute of Political Science in Strasbourg,” Heurtin said.

He said that the partnership between Tel Aviv’s Reichman University and the Institute of Political Studies in Strasbourg “is not currently in place” and “no student will be sent to Israel or Lebanon before the end of hostilities.”
