In its editorial, Al-Raya affirmed that the State of Qatar places great importance on the tourism sector, considering it one of the country’s key strategic industries. The government has provided significant support and pioneering projects aimed at enhancing tourism within the State of Qatar and fully utilizing the country’s tourism assets to position it as a major regional and global tourist destination.
The paper noted that Qatar boasts a major boom in tourism infrastructure, a world-class transport network, an important strategic location, and environmental diversity. These factors have made Qatar a safe and attractive tourist destination, in line with the national strategy to promote the tourism sector.
The newspaper praised the Cabinet’s approval during its Wednesday session of a draft law amending some provisions of Law No. (20) of 2018 regulating tourism, and another draft law amending some provisions of Law No. (21) of 2018 regulating business events, and referring them to the Shura Council. These a
mendments aim to enable Qatar Tourism to implement the new tourism strategy Al-Raya concluded by saying that the State of Qatar continues to pursue its strategic plan to increase the contribution of tourism to the national economy and achieve sustainable development that considers environmental and social factors, noting that the country has developed a comprehensive strategy to elevate this vital sector and make it a key pillar of the national economy, especially as the tourism sector in Qatar is experiencing significant growth, adding to the series of successes Qatar has achieved in various fields.
In turn, Al-Arab newspaper underscored the State of Qatar’s commitment to child health and safety, highlighted by the strong presence of the State’s institutions at the Third National Forum for Human Rights. The Forum focused on protecting children’s rights in a secure digital environment.
The paper said that the Forum’s recommendations serve as a roadmap for achieving this goal. These recommendations include d
eveloping the legislative structure to keep pace with digital development, in a manner that includes criminalizing all forms of violence and crimes committed against children in the digital environment, including prohibiting inappropriate content that is harmful to the lives and healthy development of children.
The paper also praised the Forum’s call to adopt policies and measures to enable children to have safe access to the digital environment and to continuously develop preventive tools to keep pace with the evolving risks and challenges in the digital space, and to encourage innovations in the world of technology, while ensuring high standards of safety, including obligating platforms on the Internet to conduct periodic risk assessments with the aim of exploring and addressing the harmful effects of their services on children’s rights, and ensuring that commercial companies respect children’s privacy and protect their interests.
In conclusion, Al-Arab emphasised the need for establishing an AI and digit
al rights division within the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), improving monitoring tools, educating parents, and enforcing stricter penalties for illegal content and harmful sites.
On the Arab issue, English-language newspaper The Peninsula denounced the nearly year-old brutal military campaign in the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in the martyrdom of at least 41,084 people, according to the territory’s health ministry, noting that the State of Qatar has once again called on the international community to intervene to stop Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip.
In its editorial titled “No End to Israeli Massacres”, the paper said that speaking at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Qatar’s Deputy Permanent Representative in Geneva Jawhara bint Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi stressed the need for international community to provide protection to the Palestinian people who are being openly subjected to genocide as the whole world watches.
It added that the Gulf Cooperation Council countries have also condemned the
ongoing Israeli military aggression on the Gaza Strip and the recent developments in the West Bank. They have called on the international community to pressure to stop the continued excessive use of force, which has resulted in tens of thousands of civilian casualties and widespread destruction of vital civilian infrastructure without any legal or moral deterrent.
The State of Qatar has been engaged in the humanitarian and ceasefire efforts since day one of the conflict and has said that it will continue its endeavors along with partners including Egypt and the US, The Peninsula said.
