Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha, July 31 (QNA) – In their Wednesday editorials, Qatari newspapers addressed several topics, prominently highlighting Qatar’s humanitarian and diplomatic efforts towards the crisis between Russia and Ukraine.

The newspapers warned against the continued Israeli violations of international law and the ongoing aggressive actions of Israel, including targeting several areas in southern Lebanon, with the latest attack being on the southern suburbs of Beirut. This situation, they cautioned, could drag the entire region into a comprehensive regional war.

In local affairs, the newspapers praised Qatar’s outstanding presence in the world’s most significant sporting event, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, reaffirming its status as the world capital of sports, security, and peace.

Al-Raya newspaper stated that Qatar’s humanitarian and diplomatic efforts towards the Russia-Ukraine crisis were at the heart of meetings held by the HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Russian officials, including
the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, who expressed his gratitude to Qatar for its efforts in reuniting children with their families, as part of Qatar’s ongoing mediation aimed at reunification of families separated by the crisis.

The newspaper added that Qatar, since the very beginning of the crisis, has announced the dedication of all its expertise and diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis and assist those affected in line with its humanitarian stance. Qatar has supported international efforts to cease fighting, protect civilians, and keep all communication channels open to resolve the crisis through dialogue and diplomacy.

Al-Raya emphasized that Qatari-Russian relations are based on solid foundations of mutual respect, friendship, and common interests. These relations have seen significant development in recent years through reciprocal visits between the two leaderships and intensified coordination and consultation on various regional and international issues and economic affairs
. This development is embodied in the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two parties, which serve as a legal basis for implementing many joint projects, increasing trade exchange, and enhancing the solid partnership between the two countries.

Al-Raya concluded by saying that Qatar has always affirmed its readiness to contribute to any international and regional effort to find an immediate peaceful solution to the Russia-Ukraine crisis, stemming from its firm belief in the need to activate diplomatic solutions for international crises and maintain the international order according to the United Nations Charter and commitment to the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the states.

In turn, Al-Sharq newspaper stated that the intensive international and regional diplomatic contacts and movements over the past two days have failed to stop and de-escalate the tension between Lebanon and Israel. The attack launched by Israel on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Tuesday
has exacerbated the tension, potentially dragging the entire region into a comprehensive war.

The newspaper viewed that the serious challenges faced by Lebanon and the Middle East due to this blatant aggression threaten to expand the conflict into a regional war that endangers the security and stability of the region and the world, calling to support all de-escalation efforts and compelling Israel to cease its blatant violations of international law and respect international legitimacy resolutions.

Al-Sharq concluded its editorial by saying that Qatar has been issuing warnings since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip last October. Its diplomatic movements and contacts with all regional and international partners to avoid the region from sliding into a wider circle of violence stem from its deep awareness of the dangerous consequences of the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the potential threats to international peace and security, especially with the continued aggression and Israel’s delay
in reaching a ceasefire agreement. (MORE)
