Efforts to provide potato seeds for farmers in Qa’a Al-Boun disscused

A meeting in Amran province, headed by the Secretary-General of the Local Council, Saleh Al-Makhlous, discussed on Tuesday the efforts made to enhance cooperation and joint coordination between the General Company for Potato Seed Production, the local authority, and seed importers, to provide potato seeds from local production to farmers of agricultural Qa'a Al-Boun. At the meeting, the General Manager of the Potato Seed Production Company, Hamdan Al-Akwa, reviewed the company's efforts in providing farmers' needs for improved local seeds, selecting seeds from varieties of high quality and productivity, and the mechanisms for distributing them to farmers and agricultural cooperatives. He pointed to the successes achieved in producing local seeds for potatoes, which achieved self-sufficiency and dispensed with importing seeds from abroad, a translation of the directives of the Revolution Leader and the Supreme Political Council to expand agriculture and introduce modern agricultural techniques to achieve se lf-sufficiency. He stressed the importance of promoting and developing the agricultural sector as it is a fundamental pillar for the advancement of peoples, achieving their renaissance, and preserving their independence. Al-Akwa explained that the results achieved represent a qualitative success for the agricultural front and an important step towards achieving self-sufficiency in potato seeds, and one of the factors in enhancing food security. He pointed out that the propagation of potato seeds using tissue culture technology has proven to be significantly superior to imported varieties, more than doubling their quality, resistant to agricultural diseases and pests, free of diseases that cause poor productivity, and resistant to climatic conditions.
