46,000 students admitted to universities under unified admission list

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced Saturday that a total of 46,000 students are expected to be admitted in local universities under the unified admission list.

In a recent session, the Higher Education Council, headed by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Wajih Owais, approved the numbers that will be admitted under the regular (competition) program in the nine official Jordanian universities, in addition to the World Islamic Sciences and Education University, for the academic year 2022/2023, distributed over 530 majors.

The ministry’s advisor and media spokesperson, Muhannad Khatib, said that the numbers were determined based on certain criteria, including the number set by each university and the recommendations of the Higher Education Accreditation and Quality Assurance Board, taking into account the absorption capacity of each program and the number of students graduating in each major at the end of the summer semester.

The numbers were also based on a Higher Council decision to reduce by half admission in idle and saturated majors and a gradual reduction of student numbers admitted in medical majors (medicine, dentistry and Pharmacy) in official Jordanian universities, starting in the 2022/2023 academic year, he added.

The number approved by the council, according to Khatib, has reached 40,563 male and female students, added to it seats allocated to students benefiting from the makruma (Royal benefaction).

Also under the admission policy, public universities can accept Jordanian students under the parallel program (students who have been excluded from admission through competition) within a percentage of no more than 30 percent of the total number of students accepted under the regular program in each major, as well as admissions of foreign students under the international program.
