30,000 food cards distributed to poor families across Kingdom: Ministry

The Ministry of Social Development has completed distributing 30,000 magnetic food cards to 30,000 poor families in all regions of the Kingdom, as part of royal initiatives that are being launched under royal directives on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The prepaid magnetic cards enable poor families to purchase food and supplies worth JD100 from markets of the Military Consumer Establishment and The Civilian Services Corporation in all regions of the Kingdom, the ministry said in a statement.

The statement noted that the distribution of the cards is part of royal initiatives that are being launched under direct royal directives, to alleviate the living conditions of Jordanian beneficiary families in cities, rural areas and the Badia, especially in light of the conditions that the Kingdom is going through due to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, and in implementation of royal directives to improve the living conditions of citizens, especially groups that are going through difficult conditions, provide them with a decent life, and meet their basic needs.

The ministry added that the cards were distributed to beneficiaries through 108 delivery centers across the Kingdom. During the distribution process, full compliance with the rules of public safety and physical distancing were taken into account, and according to phases, in order to ensure the safety of the beneficiary groups.

It explained that the beneficiary families selection process was carried out according to principles and criteria, and through a clear and precise action plan that included an accurate and detailed database on these families, according to a selection system and field studies on poor families implemented by the Ministry of Social Development in cooperation with administrative rulers in all governorates to ensure the inclusion of the largest segment of poor families in various regions.
