PSD Warns Against New Phone Scam Impersonating Security Officers

Amman: The Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesperson stated that the Cybercrime Unit has issued a warning regarding a new fraudulent scheme reported over the past few days. The unit received several complaints concerning audio and video calls made via various communication apps, during which callers claimed to be security officers and requested personal documents, instructing victims to report to security agencies the following day.

According to Jordan News Agency, the spokesperson confirmed that investigations into the complaints revealed a fraudulent method where scammers attempt to gain control over victims’ personal information and bank accounts. The fraudsters threaten the victims by claiming legal cases have been filed against them and demand full personal details before directing them to visit security departments. Investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators and take appropriate legal action against them.

The PSD urged citizens to exercise caution when receiving calls from unknown sources and to refrain from engaging with anyone calling through electronic applications claiming to represent security agencies. The spokesperson emphasized that official security authorities do not utilize such methods for investigations or when summoning individuals.

The public is urged to immediately report any such suspicious calls to the authorities via the unified emergency number (911), through the official communication channels of the Cybercrime Unit, or by visiting the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) offices at the nearest police station.

Energy Sector a ‘Pillar’ of Jordan’s Development Under King, Says JPRC

Jordan: Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company (JPRC) said the energy sector has been a “key pillar” of Jordan’s development journey under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership, citing “strategic advancements and major” projects that strengthened energy security and improved efficiency of the national energy system.

According to Jordan News Agency, in a statement issued Tuesday on the occasion of the Kingdom’s celebrations marking the Royal Accession anniversary, the company said it has remained a “pivotal” partner in the national development process through its role in meeting Jordan’s demand for petroleum products, implementing continuous modernization programs, and enhancing operational and production efficiency in support of the national economy.

The company said achievements made over the past decades were due to a “clear vision and a consistent approach,” focused on investing in people, strengthening the rule of law, developing state institutions, and promoting a culture of productivity and achievement.

It said these efforts enabled Jordan to preserve its stability and continue its development path despite regional and international challenges.

JPRC described the occasion as a “significant” milestone in the history of modern Jordan, reflecting a royal vision that laid the foundations for a strong and resilient state capable of addressing challenges and advancing comprehensive development.

Jordan, under the King’s leadership, has maintained its security and stability while enhancing its regional and international standing amid successive crises and rapid changes across the region, the JPRC pointed out.

Over the past 27 years, JPRC said Jordan saw “integrated” political, economic and administrative modernization efforts, alongside infrastructure development, investment promotion, and the empowerment of youth and women.

These measures, it added, have contributed to building a “more resilient” economy to adapt and achieve sustainable growth, while reinforcing Jordan’s standing as a country respected for its credibility at both the regional and international levels.

JPRC also said His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II continues to play a “pivotal” role in supporting modernization efforts through initiatives that promote youth engagement, entrepreneurship, innovation and technology.

The company noted this process helps advance Jordan’s transition toward a modern and competitive economy that meets the aspirations of future generations.

Jordan Strategy Forum Details Positive Economic Impacts of Upcoming Salary Increase

Amman: The Jordan Strategy Forum (JSF) issued a report within its “Policy Brief” paper series titled “Some Expectations of the Impact of Salary Increases on the Jordanian Economy.” The publication aims to outline the projected economic impact of the government’s decision to increase the salaries of civil and military employees and retirees earning less than JD600 per month by JD30, starting in 2027.

According to Jordan News Agency, in its policy paper, the forum noted that the scheduled increase is a significant step toward improving living standards and boosting consumer spending. It explained that this demographic has a higher marginal propensity to consume, meaning they are more likely to spend additional income immediately on goods and services rather than saving it.

Consequently, the JSF indicated that any rise in household income for this segment will directly support consumer demand, particularly for essential goods, thereby stimulating overall economic growth.

The forum concluded that the pay bump serves as a critical booster for the purchasing power of low-income groups and acts as a lever to stimulate domestic demand, creating a positive ripple effect throughout national economic activity.
