Jordan Offers Condolences to Japan Over Snowstorm Victims


Amman: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed its deepest condolences to Japan’s government and people over the snowstorm’s victims that swept through several cities.



According to Jordan News Agency, in a statement Sunday, the ministry’s official spokesperson, Fouad Majali, affirmed the Kingdom’s “full” support and solidarity with the Japanese government and people, expressing sincere condolences to the victims’ families and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

HCD, Health Ministry Sign MoU to Improve Mental Health Services for PwDs


Amman: HH Prince Mired bin Raad, Chief Chamberlain and President of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), and Minister of Health Ibrahim Al Bdour signed a memorandum of understanding on Sunday at the council’s headquarters to improve the quality of services provided to people with psychological and intellectual disabilities enrolled at the Karama Mental Health Center.



According to Jordan News Agency, the MoU signing marks a step toward modernizing the comprehensive healthcare system. It underscores the need to take measures to ensure access to mental health services for persons with disabilities. It followed a visit by Prince Mired to the center to review the conditions of beneficiaries enrolled in the Karama Psychological Rehabilitation Department and to assess the challenges facing the facility.



During the signing, Prince Mired stressed the importance of evaluating, improving, and developing mental health services in line with international standards, upgrading infrastructure, and training professional and diagnostic staff in a way that helps identify the needs of persons with psychological disabilities and ensures their access to effective and equitable services that meet quality standards.



For his part, Al Bdour said the agreement reflects the Health Ministry’s commitment to strengthening mental health and psychological rehabilitation services within a national framework. He noted that supporting the Karama Psychological Rehabilitation Department is in line with ministry policies aimed at improving and sustaining the quality of care provided to persons with disabilities.



He added that the partnership with the council represents a model of institutional integration through providing qualified personnel, improving infrastructure, and developing medical and psychological services. This, he said, will impact beneficiaries’ quality of life and reinforce their right to comprehensive and safe healthcare. He stressed that the ministry will continue working to ensure the sustainability and development of these services in accordance with national standards.



Under the MoU, the Karama Psychological Department will be upgraded in line with disability-friendly building code requirements, including structural maintenance, electrical and mechanical installations, and operational systems. The department will also be reinforced with a specialized medical team, and staff will be trained in appropriate methods of communicating with persons with psychological disabilities.



The agreement also provides for establishing and equipping a laboratory unit with the necessary equipment and personnel to conduct emergency and specialized tests, as well as setting up an emergency clinic to provide initial medical interventions in urgent cases.



It further includes providing psychological and social support services, behavior modification programs, vocational training, and recreational activities to help improve beneficiaries’ quality of life.

Parliament Backs Fair Energy Transition at Dead Sea Dialogues


Dead sea: The Lower House Energy and Mineral Resources Committee participated in the “Justice Dialogues” workshop, which took place over two days at the Dead Sea. The event was organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and was held under the patronage of Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman.



According to Jordan News Agency, the workshop focused on fair transition pathways across various sectors, including energy, agriculture, industry, and tourism. Key discussions centered on the social and economic dimensions of the energy transition, assessing its effects on the cost of living, job creation, and local development initiatives.



Committee chair MP Ayman Abu Haneyyeh emphasized that the energy transition represents a significant economic and social issue related to sovereignty. He stressed the necessity of involving Jordanians in the decision-making process to achieve a successful transition. Abu Haneyyeh also highlighted the need to protect productive sectors, ensure a fair transition for the workforce, and connect renewable energy and hydrogen projects to tangible benefits for local communities.



Members of the committee further highlighted the urgency of developing a national legislative framework to facilitate a fair transition. They advocated for enhanced parliamentary oversight of energy costs and pricing mechanisms to achieve a balance between environmental sustainability and social justice, aiming to strengthen national economic security.

Water Ministry Launches Cybersecurity Project Aligned with ISO Standards


Amman: The Ministry of Water and Irrigation on Sunday launched a cybersecurity project aligned with the ISO/IEC 27001 standard, marking a step toward strengthening information security across Jordan’s water sector.



According to Jordan News Agency, the project was launched during a workshop titled “Project to Provide Audit Requirements for the First Phase of Obtaining ISO/IEC 27001 Certification in the Water Sector in Jordan,” with the participation of representatives from water companies and other relevant stakeholders.



Secretary-General of the Water Authority of Jordan Sufian Batayneh said the initiative aims to support water-sector institutions in adopting international information security standards, protecting sensitive data from cyberattacks and other digital threats. He noted that the project will enhance cybersecurity and contribute to building a secure and sustainable operational system, in line with the Water Authority’s strategic vision.



Batayneh described the project as a strategic step reflecting the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the Water Authority’s commitment to strengthening corporate governance, safeguarding information and digital assets, ensuring business continuity, and increasing public trust in water services. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the support provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

PSD Honors 52 Inmates for Passing Tawjihi Exam


Amman: Public Security Directorate (PSD) Chief, Maj. Gen. Dr. Obaidullah Maaytah, on Sunday ordered the honoring of 52 inmates from Jordan’s correctional and rehabilitation centers after they successfully passed the Jordan’s General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) in the supplementary session for the 2025-2026 academic year.



According to Jordan News Agency, this milestone reflects the level of attention granted to inmates, which enabled them to rebuild their lives as productive members of society. The PSD announced that a total of 131 inmates sat for the Tawjihi exam across various correctional and rehabilitation centers in Jordan, where suitable conditions were provided for the beneficiaries to study and take the exam sessions. This initiative was made possible through cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Education.



These efforts are part of the reform strategy adopted by the PSD’s Correctional and Rehabilitation Centers Administration, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The strategy aims to provide opportunities for inmates who wish to take the Tawjihi exam, based on the belief that education is a fundamental pillar in the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.

Investment Minister and French Ambassador Discuss Economic Cooperation


Amman: Minister of Investment Tariq Abu Ghazaleh met with French Ambassador to Jordan Franck Gellet to discuss enhancing economic and investment cooperation. During the meeting on Sunday, Abu Ghazaleh elaborated on the Kingdom’s promising opportunities across key sectors. He emphasized that the Ministry of Investment is dedicated to boosting competitiveness by creating a stable and attractive investment environment, which is supported by comprehensive legislation, incentives, and facilitation measures.



According to Jordan News Agency, Gellet praised the Jordanian government’s efforts to improve the investment climate. He affirmed that France is committed to continued coordination and cooperation with Jordan to open new investment opportunities and advance the shared interests of both countries.
