2026 is Pivotal Year for Jordanian Economy, Minister Says

Brussels: Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah announced that 2026 will be a pivotal year for the Jordanian economy, with over JD10 billion in major investment projects set to launch under the Economic Modernization Vision. These projects are planned for implementation across multiple sectors over the next three years.

According to Jordan News Agency, Qudah made these remarks during a high-level dialogue session held at the European Commission headquarters in Brussels. The session aimed to showcase Jordan's investment environment and was attended by key figures, including Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan, Minister of Investment Tareq Abu Ghazaleh, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka ?uica, and Jordan's Ambassador to Belgium Yousef Bataineh, along with representatives from European business associations and financial institutions.

Qudah highlighted the strategic partnership between Jordan and the European Union, which has led to investments of about 1.4 billion euros. He stated that this relationship is based on trust and shared responsibility, rather than circumstantial cooperation.

The meeting in Brussels is seen as a crucial step in strengthening the partnership, with Qudah emphasizing Jordan's commitment to progress with the European Union to achieve resilience and prosperity. He noted that the Economic Modernization Vision, launched in 2022, has achieved significant milestones, including 90% implementation of its action plan and a 30% increase in foreign direct investment in 2025.

Qudah also mentioned the strong performance of the Amman financial market, marking a return to a "golden era of capital markets." He credited free trade agreements, especially the 1997 Association Agreement with the European Union, for opening substantial investment opportunities in international markets, including the United States and Canada.

He further elaborated on Jordan's role as a gateway for reconstruction in Syria and the significant increase in exports to the Iraqi market. He noted that Jordan's exports to Syria saw a 400% increase last year, reaching a record level not seen in forty years.

The meeting was part of the European Union-Jordan summit, which emphasized the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two entities. The summit included participation from Ministers Toukan and Abu Ghazaleh, Ambassador Bataineh, and representatives from the European Commission and the private sector.
