Yarmouk University President Urges ME Universities to Align with Global Research Agendas

Kuwait City: Islam Massad, President of Yarmouk University, emphasized the importance of aligning universities in the Middle East with global research agendas during a panel session titled “Attracting Talent in a New Era,” held Monday as part of the QS Middle East Higher Education Summit in Kuwait.

According to Jordan News Agency, Massad highlighted the need to establish centers of excellence in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, climate science, and digital health. He also underscored the significance of developing interdisciplinary academic programs taught in English to bolster universities’ global competitiveness and ability to attract top talent.

Massad stressed the importance of forging strategic partnerships with international universities and companies and leveraging the region’s unique geographic position as a bridge between East and West to facilitate research collaboration and knowledge exchange.

He also called for the creation of advisory councils with industry representatives, the adoption of flexible educational models based on micro-credentials, and the use of real-time labor market data to continually update curricula.

To assess the effectiveness of such strategies, Massad proposed mechanisms including long-term tracking of student learning outcomes, engagement in community and innovation-driven initiatives, analysis of graduate career paths and employer satisfaction, and the evaluation of non-cognitive skills during admissions.

EMRC Unveils 104 E-Services in Jordan’s Digital Transformation Initiative

Amman: The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) on Monday launched 104 fully integrated electronic services as part of the government’s digital transformation initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the project implementer, Siren Analytics Jordan. The rollout aims to improve the business environment, enhance user experience, and boost institutional performance in line with Jordan’s economic modernization and digital transformation vision championed by His Majesty King Abdullah II.

According to Jordan News Agency, during a ceremony held at the National Center for Nuclear and Radiological Security, EMRC Chairman Ziad Saaydeh officially announced the launch of the services. The event was attended by Samira Zoubi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, and Siren Analytics Jordan CEO Kamil Fakhoury. Saaydeh described the launch as a significant milestone in institutional modernization, reflecting the commission’s commitment to adopting innovative digital solutions to improve service quality, accessibility, and data security.

The new services span the EMRC’s various sectors: 38 for radiation protection, 13 for mining and quarries, 36 for oil and derivatives, 7 for natural gas, 5 for electricity and renewable energy, 2 for petroleum and oil shale, and 2 for the commission’s internationally accredited labs. Additionally, a unified service was launched for receiving and tracking citizen complaints across regulated sectors. He emphasized that this achievement highlights the energy sector’s commitment to excellence and digital transformation as a key enabler of national economic growth, enabling faster, more transparent, and user-centered service delivery.

Zoubi hailed the initiative as a practical model of how public institutions can align with the objectives of Jordan’s digital government program, fostering modern public services that meet contemporary demands and bolster public trust. Fakhoury noted that the services were designed using international best practices, incorporating cutting-edge technologies to ensure sustainable solutions, user accessibility, and enhanced data protection.
