10,000 fuel subsidy cards to be paid to public transport means soon-LTRC

Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) is scheduled to disburse the first package of fuel subsidy cards to public transport means this week.

In a statement on Sunday, LTRC media spokesperson, Abla Wishah, said the first batch includes 10,126 fuel subsidy cards prepared by the oil derivatives distribution companies, which will be disbursed before the end of this week.

The cards feature name and number of the vehicle owner and the subsidy value and will be distributed at LTRC’s offices countrywide, she added.

Subsidy disbursement to public transport means will run for a 6-month period in two installments of about JD5 million, aimed to address repercussions of high fuel prices on the sector and reduce costs on operators, Wishah pointed out.

LTRC’s support to main and subsidiary lines operators cover 776 buses, 3,475 medium transport means and 1,021 service cabs at a rate of JD567,150 per month, totaling JD3,402,900 for a 6-month period, according to the commission’s data.

Meanwhile, assistance directed to 5, 354 yellow taxis reached JD267,700 per month, totaling JD1,606,200 for half-a- year period.
