Zoubi emphasizes importance of statistical follow up
Director General of the Department of Statistics (DoS) Qassim Al-Zou’bi, said that Arab states have to voluntary submit annual reports regarding UN environmental and economic accounts as they important indicators for statistics, and follow up on these indicators. Al-Zou’bi made the remarks at the opening of a regional workshop on comprehensive environmental and economic accounts that support sustainable development in the Arab world, which was organized by the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA) in coordination with the UN Statistics Division on Monday.
He commended the efforts of AITRS and ESCWA in developing and strengthening capacities of the Arab statistics agencies.
President of the AITRS, Abdullah Al Mualami, said that the topic of the workshop has been gaining importance since 1987, when the United Nations Statistics Committee officially started work.
