Minister of Education, Azmi Mahafzah, commended the donors’ continued support for the Jordanian government in its endeavor to fulfill its commitments to ensure “fair” access to high-quality education for refugee children in Jordan. Mahafzah made the remarks during his visit, accompanied by heads of international missions from Australia, Canada, European Union (EU), Germany, Norway, United Kingdom and US Agency for International Development (USAID) to Dhahiyat Prince Hasan Elementary Mixed School, which supports Syrian refugee children, in a bid to highlight the “key” achievements made under Accelerating Access to Education Initiative (AAI). The AAI , through its various activities, supported about 151,668 Syrian refugee children, and approximately 3,790 refugee children of other nationalities, to get a quality education, as the main focus of the initiative was to ensure that refugees and vulnerable groups in Jordan have access to education, according to an Education Ministry statement. Mahafzah also referred to a “key” achievement of the AAI’s second phase, as 1,595 Jordanian children, 388 Syrian refugee peers, and 30 refugee children of other nationalities were supported, in addition to supporting the pilot program in 60 schools for 2,013 children with disabilities and learning difficulties. The initiative’s efforts were not only limited to hiring inclusive education staff, but also sought to provide more educational materials and audiovisual and kinetic medical aids, the statement noted. In addition, the initiative aimed to develop “institutional” exam and monitoring guidelines aimed to integrate children with disabilities, and train administrative and educational workers in all schools on inclusive education concepts, the statement added <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
