Amman: The Lower House Palestine Committee on Sunday discussed the latest developments in Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque, in a meeting, attended by Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Sites, Mohammad Khalayleh.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Chairing the meeting, the committee’s chairman, MP Fayez Basbous, referred to continuous follow up on Jerusalem’s developments, in coordination and continuous follow-up with Ministry of Awqaf.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The committee will hold a workshop related to the political dimension of the Hashemite custodianship in cooperation with the ministry soon, Basbous noted.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
In addition, he said the committee condemns and denounces all the incursions and actions carried out by Jewish extremists and settlers in Al-Aqsa Mosque, with the support Israeli occupation police under the far-right government, the lawmaker noted, decrying the siege imposed on Hawara area in Nablus governorate.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The deputy also affirmed the committee’s support for efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Hashemite Custodian over Islamic and Christian holy sites in the holy city.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
For his part, Khalayleh Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem’s sanctities “is not recent,”, indicating that the ministry follows up on developments in the holy city round the clock through Jordan-run Jerusalem Endowments Department.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Referring o increasing Israeli incursions in Jerusalem over past two years, he said Jordan will “firmly” confront such attacks through all Arab and international forums.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
He referred to His Majesty’s stance that Al-Aqsa Mosque can’t be spatially and temporally divided, adding that such a division, which violates all international laws and covenants, will not happen.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The minister spoke about the Israeli authorities’ obstacles to carry out reconstruction, maintenance, restoration and development projects that Jordan plans to implement in Al Aqsa Mosque, noting Jordan is still implementing all its projects there.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
