Minister of Health Firas Hawari and top ministry officials have discussed the steps taken to treat and manage cystic fibrosis in the Kingdom, according to a ministry statement released Saturday.<\/P>
<\/P>
The ministry said that the steps included setting up a national registry for cystic fibrosis patients, and establishing specialized clinics to treat and manage this disease and its complications.<\/P>
<\/P>
The ministry indicated that these steps will be initially implemented in the Prince Hamza Hospital and Princess Rahma Hospital, in order to diagnose, treat and follow up these cases.<\/P>
<\/P>
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine. Long-term issues include difficulty breathing and coughing up mucus as a result of frequent lung infections.<\/P>
