Minister of Interior, Mazen Faraya, said the Jordanian government deals with Syrian refugee issues on the Kingdom’s territory in a “comprehensive and coordinated” manner with all concerned parties in this regard.

Jordan, under Royal directives, has provided and is still providing all assistance to help Syrian refugees and alleviate their suffering in various fields, the minister said.

Touring Zaatari camp for Syrian refugees on Thursday, he said efforts to check on the refugees’ service and living conditions and reassure flow of their daily life is a “humanitarian and national” duty.

The government works under the Prime Minister’s directives, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to maintain and facilitate ways to provide refugee-oriented health, education and security services, in line with Jordan’s available capabilities, according to the minister.

The minister stressed the need to stimulate the camp’s refugees to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, as the “only way” to address the pandemic, in addition to the preventive and health measures followed in accordance with the approved medical protocol.

In this regard, he said the percentage of vaccinated refugees out of the target group is 25%, while the proportion of jabbed Jordanians stood at 60 percent.

Faraya said the percentage of vaccinated people inside the camp is “still below the required level,” calling on the refugees to receive the vaccine.

The minister said gov’t plans to administer the Covid-19 vaccine to Jordanians, refugees and residents in the Kingdom is a “main” pillar of the King’s directives since the beginning of the pandemic, aimed to protect society.

During his camp visit, the minister also inspected the two vaccination centers designated for refugees, and was briefed on the progress of health and technical procedures in place.
