\nCairo: The Arab League is set to host the 61st session of the Arab Charter Committee on Human Rights on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Committee Chairman Jaber Saleh Al Marri said Monday the committee will review the periodic reports of Bahrain and Egypt on April 23-24 and April 28-29, respectively.<\/p>\n
The reviews are part of the ongoing assessment of Arab countries’ compliance with their obligations under the Arab Charter on Human Rights, Al Marri explained.<\/p>\n
The reviews also aim to evaluate the extent to which these countries are fulfilling the provisions of the charter, he added.<\/p>\n
Following the reviews, the committee will provide its observations and recommendations to be implemented in accordance with the objectives and articles of the charter, Al Marri noted.<\/p>\n
Also participating in the session are representatives from various mechanisms of the joint Arab action system for human rights, as well as partner human-rights mechanisms.<\/p>\n
These include the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Independent Permanent Human Rights Com
\nmission (IPHRC), the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Human Rights Office, and the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI).<\/p>\n
