Water resources sustainability conference kicks off
Amman, The International Conference on the Sustainable Management of Water Resources kicked off at the Dead Sea on Monday with the support of the German Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Speaking to the gathering, Secretary General of the Water and Irrigation Ministry, Ali Subah, said Jordan is facing huge water challenges triggered by the impact of climate change, drought seasons, and the rising demand on water as the country has already hosted consecutive waves of refugees.
To solve this dilemma, Subah highlighted the importance of launching regional cooperation to tackle water shortage through the establishment of water megaprojects at the regional level, especially with the Palestinian side.
He lauded Germany’s continued support in water fields, and said the Jordanian government is mulling plans to expand desalination projects to increase water quantities.
