Varieties of drug exports up 18pct in 2021

The number of the Kingdom’s pharmacuetical varieties exported has increased by 18 percent in 2021 compared to 2020, according to statistics by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

FDA Director-General Nizar Mheidat said on Sunday that the Kingdom exported in 2021 more than 2,294 types of locally-produced drugs, with a total value of JD500,000 million.

Antibiotics, he noted, topped the list of exported drugs, in terms of quantity, while Immunosuppressants came first in a list based on the value of the medicine.

Mheidat added that the FDA seeks to prop up national drug exports in 2022 under a strategic plan in coordination with officials in the sector.
