UNSC holds session on Syria Wednesday
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will hold on Wednesday a session on the humanitarian situation in Syria.
The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Mark Lowcock, will brief the counsel’s members on this regard for the third time in February, as Syria is witnessing heavy fighting and a deteriorating humanitarian situation.
Lowcock will also present the Secretary-General’s monthly report on the Syrian humanitarian file to the UNSC.
Few days ago, the council has unanimously voted in favor of Resolution 2401, which calls for a 30-day cease-fire in Syria, and has demanded immediate lifting of sieges on war-ravaged enclaves like eastern Ghouta, where, Secretary-General Ant?nio Guterres warned earlier this week, some 400,000 people are living “in hell on earth.”
