The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) called on providing greater support to refugees host countries in order to help them overcome challenges that hinder their access to vaccines.
Most countries are now including refugees in their national COVID-19 vaccination plans, but administrative obstacles and logistical challenges prevent many of them from receiving even the first dose of the vaccine, a UNHCR statement said Wednesday.
UNHCR urged countries to address specific restrictions and obstacles that prevent refugees from receiving the doses.
It also called for more investment to enhance national health systems across low and middle-income countries hosting refugees, to support more effective pandemic preparedness and response capacities.
