UAE condemns Israeli PM’s declaration to annex Palestinian lands

Abu Dhabi, The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has condemned in the strongest terms Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement that he would annex lands in the occupied West Bank, if he wins the upcoming elections.

UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said in a press statement on Wednesday that the declaration is a dangerous escalation that violates all international charters and resolutions and is a mere attempt to “make electoral gains in the most heinous manner,” and a disregard to the legitimacy of international resolutions and the good effort exerted by the international community to hammering out a peaceful settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

He stressed that this “irresponsible electoral announcement threatens to undermine the international community’s political efforts that have been exerted over decades to finding a fair and just solution to the Palestinian issue.”

Al Nahyan expressed the UAE’s welcoming of the Saudi request to hold an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to address this serious escalation and to put in motion an emergency action plan.

“Confronting the Israeli Prime Minister’s electoral announcement is a shared responsibility; and the international community is obliged to take the necessary measures to address this dangerous development,” he said.
