Tobacco case witness says pressured by defendants to change testimony

Amman, A prosecution witness in the so called “tobacco case” revealed that he has recently been under pressure from close associates to two key defendants in the case to make him change his testimony.

During a public hearing held Tuesday, the State Security Court (SSC) listened to two prosecution witnesses, and adjourned the session to Wednesday, to complete the hearing of a number of prosecution witnesses.

During previous hearings, two witnesses gave false testimony and changed their statements they both had given before the attorney general during the investigation before referring the case to the SSC.

The SSC began the trial of the defendants on Tuesday, March 12.

So far, the SSC has heard the testimonies of 60 defense witnesses, out of 141 defense witnesses in the case that involves 29 defendants, out of whom six at large.
