Syrian National Dialogue Conference kicks off today in Sochi

The Syrian National Dialogue Conference officially opens on Tuesday in Sochi with the participation of some 1511 Syrians, including 107 representatives of the opposition abroad.

The organizing committee of the conference said that participants represent different religions, sects and political and social groups in Syria. It added that representatives of the opposition came from Geneva, Cairo, Moscow and Ankara.

Most of the participants are Arabs (94.5%), but among those invited are also Kurds, Yazidis, Assyrians, Armenians, Circassians, Dagestanis, Turkmen and other ethnicities of Syria.

The Sochi conference is scheduled to begin with a speech by the Russian President’s Special Representative for the Settlement in Syria, Alexander Lavrentev, followed by a speech by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and a speech by United Nations Special Envoy Stephane de Mistura.
