South Africa Embassy, UNRWA mark centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) marked in cooperation with the Embassy of South Africa in Amman marked on Wednesday, the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela.
On this occasion, the embassy and South Africans living in Jordan painted walls and classrooms at an UNRWA school in Amman for Palestinian refugees.
Mandela was named Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela and was born on 18th of July 1918 in the village of Mvezo , which was in the Cape Province (now called Eastern Cape) of the Union of South Africa (now the Republic of South Africa). Mandela was the first democratically-elected President of South Africa and served as President from 1994 to 1999.
