Sha’ar affirms importance of joint inter-Arab parliamentary coordination
Amman, Chairwoman of the Forum of Jordanian Women Parliamentarians MP Sabah Sha’ar on Sunday called for enhancing cooperation and coordination among Arab parliaments to formulate common positions that promote women’s political participation and enable them to continue their pivotal role in the parliamentary process.
During the forum’s participation in a roundtable, organized by the European Union on “enhancing women’s political participation and lessons learned from Jordan and Morocco,” she stressed the need to adopt policies and decisions to promote the women’s status politically to take their real opportunity in the political process.
Sha’ar called for removing obstacles that prevent women from participating in political decision-making.
During the event, an open discussion tackled the opportunities for women’s political participation, and means to enhance their engagement in the educational, economic and political spheres.
The attendees stressed the need for forging mechanisms to promote role of parliamentary councils and blocs, and addressing obstacles facing women in political participation.
