Senate president highlights strong Jordanian-Turkish ties
Senate President Faisal Fayez chaired a meeting held on Thursday by the Jordanian-Turkish Parliamentary Friendship Committee with the Turkish Ambassador to Jordan Murat Karagoz.
The meeting dealt with current regional issues, mainly the Syrian crisis and the Palestinian issue.
The two sides stressed the importance of reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis that preserves the unity of Syria and its people, as well as continuing efforts to fight terrorism and extremism.
Fayez highlighted the strong ties between Jordan and Turkey, noting that Jordan is proud of its relations with Turkey that are based on mutual respect.
He also pointed to cooperation between the two countries as well as the continued coordination and consultations between the two countries’ leaderships on bilateral and regional issues.
The Senate president praised the Turkish stance which affirmed the Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem as well as Turkey’s supportive stance to His Majesty in rejecting the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The Turkish ambassador for his part praised the strong political, economic and investment ties between Jordan and Turkey. He also hailed the role played by Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty the King to achieve peace and stability in the region.
The ambassador also spoke about Turkey’s policy in the region, especially with regard to the situation in Afrin, adding that the Turkish operation aims to protect national security and fight terrorism.
