Russian FM, army chief pay surprise visit to Israel

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chief of Staff of the Russian armed forces Valery Gerasimov will discuss during a surprise visit to Israel with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a range of issues, top of which is the situation in Syria, according to Tass News Agency.

It said that Netanyahu will meet Lavrov and Ghanasimov to discuss a series of issues, the most important of which are recent developments in Syria.

The agency said the previously unannounced visit was not on Lavrov’s agenda.

On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Israeli premier discussed the latest developments in the Syrian crisis.
