Renewable energy project to be launched in Jordan Valley
Amman, Prime Minister Omar Razzaz Monday attended a ceremony to sign an agreement for launching a renewable energy project in the Northern Jordan Valley towns of Deir Alla and Muaddy.
The project, which will be funded by the Canadian International Energy Agency and the Ministry of Energy, included installing solar arrays at a capacity of 950 KW for both municipalities.
Energy minister Hala Zawati stressed the importance of the project in spreading the use of renewable energy, noting that it will meet 91 per cent of Muaddy municipality’s electricity needs and 64 per cent of the Deir Alla municipality power consumption. She pointed out that it will save some JD350,000 for both municipalities.
During the ceremony, a Canadian embassy official underscored the cooperation between Jordan and Canada, and said the project aims at promoting the use of renewable energy in the Kingdom.
