Razzaz talks of Covid-19 crisis, ways to address the pandemic
Prime Minister, Omar Razaz, said the Covid-19 numbers recently recorded in the Kingdom and some virus hotspots, announced during the last days, led the government to unanimously be cautious and take further precautionary and preventive measures, upon the recommendations of the epidemiological committee.
In an interview with Fayek Hijazin, Director General of the Jordan News Agency (Petra), on Thursday, Razzaz said: ” There is no relentlessness in the battle against the Covid-19 epidemic,” warning any leniency will have very dangerous repercussions in this context.
Razzaz thanked the various state departments for their efforts to counter the pandemic.
During the interview, Razzaz highlighted a set of measures the government has taken since the beginning of the pandemic, with eye to the rapid response during the first weeks to curb the spread of the disease, through health, economic and social measures.
On “the Himat Watan Fund,” he said comes under the title of social solidarity, adding: “We had an excellent system that we can build on quickly. The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) also provided facilities for companies to be able to pay the salaries of their employees.”
In this context, 25 thousand employees in these companies have received salaries by these CBJ facilities, adding more than 391 thousand families have benefited from the Himat al-Watan Fund, and other aid agencies.
In total, 2.5 million citizens have so far benefited from the government’s assistance packages.
He said, “We are continuing to provide support to citizens, which is our first priority, to focus on the health aspects and social repercussions of the pandemic.”
