Qatar says it enters peak of COVID-19 outbreak
The Qatari Ministry of Health said Tuesday that 1,637 new cases of the coronavirus were recorded in the last 24 hours, marking a spike in the number of confirmed infections in the Gulf Arab state.
It said in a statement that the State of Qatar has now entered the peak phase of the outbreak as the number of infections recorded daily climbs, stressing the need to more than ever adhere to preventive measures and social distancing precautions.
The ministry also said that 735 COVID-19 patients have recovered, bringing the total number of cured cases to 5,634.
It said 24 patients infected with the virus were admitted to intensive care due to health complications, raising the total number of cases in intensive care to 163.
