GeneralPublic Security launches traffic safety campaign

The Public Security Directorate (PSD) Tuesday announced it is launching its “together, we arrive safe” campaign to raise traffic awareness to reduce accidents on roads.

PSD Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh asked all police units to engage the citizens “in a participatory campaign to promote a traffic safety culture based on adherence to the rules to avoid traffic violations, especially dangerous offences.”

“The painful traffic accidents we see, and which are repeated for reasons that can be averted, is a matter that warrants that we all stand together,” the PSD said in a press release, pointing out that the solution lies in “a collective effort to create a traffic culture derived from our indigenous values, to overcome dangerous practices and violations that threaten lives.”

Accidents blamed on human error account for about 98 per cent of traffic accidents, which take innocent lives and cause enormous property losses, can be averted, if we stand together and heed traffic rules, the statement said.

It cited instances of cooperation between traffic policemen and the public, adding that participation is the way to overcome “the many challenges and negative phenomena,” urging the public and institutions and the media to join forces for the success of the campaign.
