HRH Princess Dana Firas, president of the Petra National Trust (PNT), and Minister of Culture Haifa Najjar met yesterday with Italian Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini.
The meeting was held during the Conference of the Ministers of Culture of the Euro-Mediterranean Region, which took place in Naples.
Princess Dana commended Jordan’s participation in this conference, which was represented by the government sector and civil society, a Culture Minister statement said on Saturday.
She pointed out that the Italian Ministry of Culture has recently sought to work on partnership and move forward in cooperation for the Euro-Mediterranean region, integrating arts with culture, and emphasizing that culture has a pivotal role in achieving sustainability.
“We in Jordan are heading towards new horizons through the Euro-Mediterranean partnership,” Minister Al-Najjar said.
Al-Najjar also touched on the Initiative of Naples, which means to enhance cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
She stressed that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, always seeks to highlight the voice of moderation, cooperation and dialogue, even though it lives at the heart of the conflict in the Middle East, and that it will work to implement the provisions of the initiative.
She invited the Italian Minister of Culture to visit Jordan, pointing out that the Jordanian government appreciates this initiative and its mechanisms to strengthen cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region despite its diversity.
For his part, the Italian minister expressed his appreciation for Jordan’s qualitative and fruitful participation, lauding its moderate approach and the richness of its culture based on openness to human diversity..
Franceschini added that the world has recently went through different situations, saying, “But we all hope to implement the initiative of the conference, which will be signed by all participants, and work to strengthen cooperation and bilateral relations between our two countries.”
The two-day conference, which concluded yesterday, was held in Naples, Italy, with the participation of culture ministers from the European Union, Mediterranean countries and a number of international organizations and bodies.
The conference discussed a number of topics that would enhance the fields of culture and heritage among the countries of the region, and set policies for cultural development, industries and creative economy.
