Amman, Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein on Friday patronized the 88th Hashemite Scientific Council, the second this year, organized by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs under the theme ” Jerusalem and the Hashemite Custodianship over Al-Aqsa Mosque.” Speaking to the gathering, head of the Council of Jerusalem Awqaf , Sheikh Abdel-Azim Salhab, thanked the Hashemite scientific councils for picking this key topic, at a time when the holy city undergoes an unprecedented occupation attack targeting its sanctities, institutions and people.
He said the Islamic Waqf owns about three-quarters of the old town, leased according to an old, endowment fare, and supervises 125 mosques, provides salaries to more than one thousand employees there, and supports more than 40 centers of religious education.
Salhab added the continued Hashemite care of Al-Aqsa Mosque is the sole solution for the arrogance of the occupation over Jerusalem, and said many obstacles hinder the work of Islamic Awqaf, including the entry of extremist Jews to Al-Aqsa Mosque and their Talmudic practices in the mosque.
On the Israeli practices, he noted Israel hinders the construction measures added to attempts to change the residential and urban environment of the city, and other measures aimed at tampering with the Islamic and Arab monuments.
Salhab said endowments in the holy city are historic documents, which prove the rights of Muslims there, however, the Israelis occupied all the endowment lands.
The scientific councils, organized by Awqaf Ministry, are an annual Ramadan event that feature the participation of intellectuals, scholars, and Sharia (Islamic law) professors from the Kingdom and other Arab and Muslim countries.
