Police confiscate over 800 firearms in security crackdown

Amman, Some 750 people were arrested in possession of 895 unlicensed firearms, since the beginning of a security crackdown on discharging firearms in public and possession of unlicensed weapons, last June.

During the eighth week of its nationwide campaign, the Public Security Department’s (PSD) personnel apprehended 71 suspects, and seized 75 firearms.

In a statement on Thursday, the department reiterated that its personnel will continue to hunt down owners of illegal weapons, lauding citizens who carried out their civic duty in denouncing this act or reporting it to the police.

The PSD urged the public to call 911 and report any shooting incidents.
