Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh Saturday visited the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and opened projects in the industrial complex in the southern Aqaba Governorate.
He met with JPMC Chairman Mohammad Thnaibat, in the attendance of a number of ministers and officials in Aqaba, and was briefed on the company’s future plans.
The prime minister also inaugurated a project for the rehabilitation of phosphoric acid tanks, an automatic aluminum fluoride filling unit and the power station feeding the fertilizer complex as well as a greening initiative in the gypsum stacking area at the company’s industrial complex south of Aqaba.
He said Aqaba is of great importance within the economic modernization vision, and has the capacity to become one of the 50 best cities in the world, pointing to the many indicators to enhance competitiveness and attract more investments to achieve development and create jobs
Khasawneh stressed the importance of maximizing the added value of the phosphate and potash companies through a focus on the fertilizer industry and pharmaceuticals manufacture that support the national economy, enhance the transfer of knowledge and revenues and achieve higher economic growth rates.
The economic modernization aims aims, over ten years, to generate one million job opportunities, achieve a growth rate of 5.5 percent, attract $1.5 billion of foreign capital and boost domestic investments by $2.5 billion annually over ten years.
The Prime Minister commended mining companies, especially phosphate and potash firms, for their contributions as part of social responsibility and development of local communities.
