PM meets dignitaries, local leaders in Tafileh

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh met on Saturday at the Tafileh Technical University with dignitaries, grassroots activists and officials of Tafileh Governorate as part of government visits to check first-hand on the needs of citizens and improve services to local communities across the Kingdom.

“Our visit to Tafileh is part of our duty towards the people of this dear governorate, who, along with the rest of the sons and daughters of our dear homeland, contributed to laying the foundations of the solid structure of the Jordanian state during its first centennial,” he told the meeting.

The Prime Minister said he hoped the new Tafileh Government Hospital will enhance healthcare, and that medical tourism in the southwestern governorate will flourish, referring to the Afra spa and other tourist attractions.

Khasawneh said his government is forging ahead with a comprehensive political and economic modernization scheme and developing the public sector, which was recently launched by His Majesty King Abdullah II.

The economic modernization vision, he said, aims to achieve a 5.5 percent growth rate and create about one million jobs for Jordanians in ten years, adding that legislation on political modernization to reach partisan governments has been accomplished.

He said the public sector modernization roadmap seeks to address the weaknesses it had suffered from, assuring that no civil servants will lose their jobs and their rights and privileges will be preserved under the development scheme that aims to raise the level of public services and attract investments.

The Prime Minister pointed out that unemployment in Tafileh, as in some other governorates, is high, pledging to lure in job-generating investments to the region.

He ordered the implementation of road construction and lighting projects and promoting investment in water harvesting and the industrial estate in Tafileh, noting government-approved incentives to businesses there.

On regional issues, Khasawneh reiterated Jordn’s stand with the Palestinian people to fully realize their rights according to the two-state solution, an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital within a final solution that addresses all final status issues.

He said His Majesty King Abdullah II fully and responsibly undertakes the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and upholds maintaining the historical and legal status quo in the sacred city.
