Parliament speaker meets with Syrian Chargé d’Affairs

Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Abdel Moneim Al-Awdat, on Thursday discussed with the Chargé d’Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Amman, Issam Nyal, ways to cement parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and a number of issues of common interest.

Al-Awdat said Jordan’s position towards the Syrian crisis has been clear and forward-looking as expressed by His Majesty King Abdullah II who has always said that a peaceful solution is the only way out that guarantees the survival of a safe, stable and united Syria.

He added that “Jordanian-Syrian parliamentary coordination is continuing, and we are keen to develop it to achieve the interests of the two brotherly peoples, and to serve the issues of our Arab nation, especially the Palestinian cause”.

The Chargé d’Affairs of the Syrian Embassy valued Jordan’s stances towards Syria, stressing the importance of strengthening and developing prospects for joint parliamentary coordination and exchanging visits of parliamentary delegations, “in a way that contributes to achieving the interests of the two brotherly peoples and serving the central issues of our Arab nation”.

Nyal emphasized that his country is keen to maintain joint cooperation with Jordan, especially with the full restart of the Jaber border post.
