The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is planning a special promotional program for Salt which was added to the UNESCO’s World Heritage List earlier this week.
Salt city’s addition to UNESCO’s World Heritage List is an accomplishment for Jordan that will be utilized to boost local tourism, said Nayef Fayez, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities.
Earlier this week, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee voted to inscribe Salt from 39 sites that were nominated for inclusion on the list next to other sites in China, Spain, India and Turkey.
During a visit to the city on Thursday, Fayez underlined that the ministry is preparing a special program to promote Salt on social networking sites on the global level and is in contact with international tourism companies to include Salt on their promotional programs.
A team of civil and public authorities from the city was formed to materialize the accomplishment into tourism and development projects with the aim of engaging young people.
The ministry’s role, he noted, is to materialize and maintain this achievement by utilizing the potential of the city of Salt and its distinguished architecture, the coexistence among its residents, hospitality, and good customs and traditions.
Fayez hailed the efforts exerted over the years by individuals and institutions to give Salt its world heritage status. Salt’s nomination was first proposed in 1995, then in 2017 and finally in 2021.
