Ministry allocates 125 emergency winter shelters

Internal AffairsMinistry allocates 125 emergency winter shelters

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Krishan on Thursday instructed that 125 emergency winter shelters be allocated in all municipalities across the Kingdom.

During a visit to the al-Mafraq and al-Sarhan municipalities, Krishan said that municipalities must be fully prepared to swiftly address flash floods and torrential rains and provide a safe place for affected families and individuals.

He ordered the municipalities to clean valleys and water drainage pipes to keep rainwater from pooling on the streets and hindering traffic, stressing that the ministry’s approach for emergency situations during the winter involves caution and prevention.

To that end, Krishan stressed that the ministry will pay the amounts due to the municipalities in installments to alleviate the difficult economic conditions that the Kingdom is experiencing, mostly from the COVID-19 fallout. He stated that the ministry will also raise the fuel subsidies allocations to enable municipalities to provide services to citizens.
