Minister, US officials discuss 2018 US aid to Jordan
Amman, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury discussed with US officials priorities of cooperation, including the US aid for 2018 and means to support the kingdom’s budget in accordance with a memorandum of understating signed last February between the two sides.
Fakhoury met with the US Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, deputy assistant Secretary of State for economic and business affairs and members of Congress Committee on Appropriations.
During the meetings, which were held on the sidelines of the 2018 Fragility Forum in Washington, Fakhoury and the US officials discussed the US assistance for 2018, which is expected to be approved by Congress over the coming weeks.
The minister briefed the US officials on the recent developments of the kingdom’s economic situation and the main challenges Jordan faces, noting the impact of regional turmoil and the Syrian crisis on the Kingdom.
He also outlined progress made in Jordan’s reform agenda within the executive developmental program, the economic growth plan 2018 – 2022 and the country’s economic and financial reform program.
Fakhoury praised US support of the kingdom, noting the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed recently between the two countries to provide Jordan with at least $1.275 billion annually.
