Lower House rejects allegations targeting King’s prestige, status

Lower House Speaker, Lawyer Abdel Moneim Awdat, has condemned the “deviated, slanderous” allegations targeting His Majesty King Abdullah II’s prestige and status.

Speaking at the emergency House session on Sunday, Awdat said “Parliament firmly supports the King against all attempts targeting his prestige, and rejects any tampering with the Kingdom’s social fabric, its tribal and family harmony, and social peace, which form the basis for Jordan’s security and stability.”

Awdat said: “The unfortunate events which Jordan has witnessed over the past few days only increase our belief in the necessity of imposing the rule of law to preserve our unity and national gains, and defend Jordan’s security and stability in all circumstances and conditions.”

The House’s deputies represent all spectra of the Jordanian people, and express their free will through their oversight and legislation roles, Awdat told the lawmakers.
