Jordan’s Petra sees foreign visitors numbers jump by 42pct in 2018

Petra, The number of foreign visitors to the ancient city of Petra shot up by 42 percent in 2018, the Petra Development & Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) announced Wednesday.

According to the data, a total of 826,993 visitors from all over the world visited the Rose of City making 2018 one of Jordan’s top tourist destination’s best years. This number includes 136,261 Jordanians and Arab nationals.

PDTRA’s acting Chief Commissioner, Suleiman Farajat, said that the city of Petra saw a notable tourism activity in the last year, adding that the city has what it takes to take in more than 1 million visitors per year, with expectations that 2019 would be a tourist one “par excellence.”
