Jordan, world celebrate World Health Day

Amman, Jordan will join world countries on Sunday (April 7th) in marking the World Health Day under the theme: “Universal health coverage: everyone, everywhere”.

According to a statement issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Saturday, this year’s World Health Day theme tackles primary health care and comprehensive health coverage.

Universal health coverage can not be achieved without primary health care. This year’s campaign aims to focus attention on the efforts that need to be made to make universal health coverage a reality for everyone and to ensure better health for all, the statement added.

“Health is a human right, and we can all make health for all a reality in Jordan. We, WHO and UNICEF, firmly believe that achieving universal health coverage in Jordan is possible and starts with a strong primary health care system,” said World Health Organization (WHO) representative Maria-Cristina Profili and UNICEF representative in Jordan Robert Jenkins in the joint statement.

They pointed out that primary health care was the most cost-effective method of achieving health for all and that primary health care often suffered from a lack of resources, leading to greater gaps in poor and marginalized communities.
