Jordan, Syria to hold economic forum in Damascus next Saturday

The Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), in cooperation with the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, are gearing to hold a Jordanian-Syrian economic forum next Saturday in Damascus.

JCC and Aqaba Chambers of Commerce Chairman Nael Kabariti, who will chair the Jordanian delegation, said in a statement on Tuesday that such event represents a new building block in boosting trade relations between the two neighboring countries, especially in light of the international economic developments.

The three-day forum, which will be held under the title “Participatory, not competitive”, aims at further strengthening bilateral trade cooperation, inaugurating a phase of commercial partnership and pushing ties forward, Kabariti underscored, noting that Jordanian companies are interested in enhancing their presence in the Syrian market.

The forum, to be inaugurated by the Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Muhammad al-Khalil, will include working sessions on trade exchange, and transport logistics between the two nations, as well as industrial and agricultural cooperation, in addition to specialized meetings between Jordanian firms and Syrian business owners, he indicated.

Kabariti also highlighted that the JCC has exerted utmost efforts to overcome obstacles hindering trade exchange with Syria, to preserve the two countries’ common interests.

On the sidelines of the forum, an exhibition of Jordanian products will be held with the participation of 32 Jordanian companies working in the sectors of industry, services, transport, logistics, tourism, food and trade.

It is worth noting that the value of national exports to Syria inched up during the first seven months of 2022 by 23 percent, to reach JD40 million, while imports stood at JD26 million.
