Jordan seeks to achieve comprehensive health insurance by 2030-minister

Health Minister, Dr. Firas Hawari, said access to comprehensive health insurance is a “national” priority,

which Jordan seeks to reach by 2030 by signing a number of international conventions.

Addressing “Towards Comprehensive Health Coverage in Jordan” conference, organized by the Jordan Association For Medical Insurance (JAMI) Conference, in cooperation with stakeholders, Hawari noted His Majesty King Abdullah II directed, in a letter to the PM Bisher Khasawneh’s government to expand the base of uninsured people under Jordan’s health insurance program.

The government, he said, provides free health coverage to any patient suffering from a disease with a high treatment cost, primarily cancer, kidney failure and chronic blood diseases.

Over the past years, he said Jordan covered nearly 650,000 children under free health insurance, adding that the Kingdom also provided coverage to citizens over sixty.

To 2018, people covered under the health coverage has reached 72%, according to a study conducted by the Department of Statistics (DoS), he added.
